I'm not sure when you're coming to NY, but if it's sometime within the next two months I'd advise you get a heavy coat (a winter coat, not a light or medium weight jacket), gloves, a scarf, snow or rain boots (must be waterproof) and maybe a hat if you wear those. I don't know what kind of clothing you wear, but definitely long sleeves, sweaters, long and heavy pants. It's blizzard season out here right now and probably will be for a while.
