Architectural Preferences?

So my roommate and I spent a few hours looking through some books and some Architectural Records earlier trying to find cool buildings for our studio assignment, lol. According to the assignment sheet, we're suppose to find things that we think are "cool" or whatever and then try to figure out what we like about them and kind of boil it down to an abstract term/concept. It's suppose to help us figure out what we want to focus on for our thesis (though it's not required that we continue on with whatever we come up with for tomorrow).

Anyway, the point is I'm having such a hard time, LOL. I mean, there are so many things I do like, but I think my major problem is that I can't design like the things I'm REALLY drawn to! For example, I love Calatrava's stuff (Bilbao Bridge, Alamillo Bridge, Tenerife Opera House, etc.) -- it's so awesome, but I don't think I could ever design something like that and even if I could, I don't have the Rhino skills to make a digital model of it! (And for something this complicated, I'm pretty sure I would need a digital model of it as well as a physical model!)

So yeah, I think my problem is that I'm kind of wary of putting those examples in my presentation because I'm not really confident in my abilities to pull that kind of thing off for my thesis project. =( (Oh life! SO HARD!) Anyway, I think I will saying something like how I'm interested in the structure for my presentation, lol (and those examples totally work for that. XP). I suppose that is true because I did spend three years taking ARCE classes for my ARCE minor and I my thesis should probably try to incorporate that, haha. I dunno, this is hard!

I kind of wanted to be in the beginning since I wanted to get it over with, but then some people went and they talked for like, ten years, and I was all intimidated because I thought this was suppose to be a short 2-5 minute thing and I seriously only have about a minute's worth of talking to do and seriously, wouldn't you feel weird about going after someone who had so much to say and went on for about 20 minutes? Yeah, didn't think so. XP But yeah, the rest of the class (about half of us) will be going on Friday. I think I want to go, like, second or whatever just to get it out of the way because being at the very end pretty much sucks. =( Anyway, I still don't really know what I wanna do for my thesis project except that, according to my presentation that I have yet to give, I want to focus on the structure. Oh life, so hard... XP



2. So in fifth year, studios general go on one big trip together during the year. We just started talking about it in class today, but yeah. For Friday we're suppose to have some options so the class can all decide on when/where we wanna go. Anyway, I think I'm pretty much open to anywhere, lol, because I haven't really been anywhere. XP I kind of want to do the east coast because that sounds fun or even out of the country would be awesome, but I need to get a passport first if the class decides on out of the country, lol. Our prof is from Germany and dude, how awesome would it be to go there?! But that is kind of expensive (I think he said ~$2500-ish), so yeah.. I dunno. Killing also talked about potentially going on a joint trip with DiSanto's studio (they're doing some coastal trip thing and taking the train or whatever), but they're aiming for going during Thanksgiving week and I am so not down for giving up my Thanksgiving for this trip. I would prefer early winter quarter or winter break if we must. Anyway, if you have any suggestions for where we should go, tell me! XP



3. I'm sure everyone already knows that rageprufrock wrote Inception fic and I'm sure everyone has already read it except for me! Dude, it's 70k words -- so insane! I've been wanting to read it since I saw it up this morning, but I haven't had any free time to get around to it! I mean, I did some homework this morning and then I had class from 1-6 and then I had a club meeting at 6PM which extended all the way until 8PM! And I have so much reading to do for my CRP classes tomorrow, then I have class from 8AM-2PM tomorrow and then I might have some free time to read it, lol. (THAT IS LIKE, FOREVER AWAY!~)

Anyway, I have to change and then head off to the gym now, lol. I kinda don't wanna go because I have tons to reading and I want to sleep, but this is only the first week of class and I can't just start skipping out on gym days already, right?
