Well, I said I'd talk about music, so I'm talking about music.. What is there to say? It has changed a lot over the years.. Not that I noticed much when I was younger, but yeah, hahah. I remember when I was a little kid and my dad driving us to elementary school and us just listening to the radio. For those who don't know me that well, I tend to sing along with anything I've heard. Sometimes I don't know the lyrics, so I say whatever it sounds like to me from the multiple times I've heard the songs. But yeah.. Basically, I remember singing along, haha. And, of course, me being the little kid I was, I didn't have a clue of what the hell I was saying. Needless to say, once I got older and actually listened to the words coming out of my mouth ((the radio has a tendency to play old stuff sometimes, haha)) it was like whoa. A big WTF to what kids listen to, haha. And now, I can only say it's worst since hip-hop and rap are popular nowadays and those songs have a tendency to talk about.. not so kid-friendly topics, haha.
Anyway.. Now, for sometime that bugs the hell out of me. How the hell do genres work? I mean, seriously! I don't get it. It's like, people are like it's pop, it's rock, it's hip-hop, it's rap, it's emo, it's alternative, it's country, it's whatever. And, yeah, I understand each genre's suppose to have it's own sound or whatever, but how do you KNOW what something is? I mean.. I dunno about other people, but I personally HATE genres. I can't separate what's what. And here's a question I've been dying to know the answer to.. I'll even bold it, so if you know, PLEASE TELL ME! What the hell constitutes as "alternative" music? Yeah.. That's been bugging me since I've know it was a genre. ^_^;;
Here's my thoughts on genres.. To me, every song is pop. Yes, pop. I mean, for me, most everything I've heard has been from radio or TV so therefore, it is pop because pop comes from the word popular. I dunno how pop turned into its own genre, but whatever. Everything is pop. If I get a feeling that a song is definitely one thing, like rock or whatever, I call it rock-pop. If it's hip-hop, I call it hip-hop-pop. Yeah, that's for when I feel I can categorize. Generally though, I don't know what anything is so I'm just like "that's angry music" or "that's happy music", haha. And yeah.. The reason for that, of course, is that a lot of categories to me sound the same. I mean, what's the difference between hardcore and rock and punk and goth and emo and all that? Maybe there's a definite difference, but most of the time, a song can fit into any, depending on how you categorize. But yeah, I'll just stop with this train of thought or I'll end up repeating myself over and over and over..
I think it's kinda weird how once upon a time, there were vinyls and cassettes and now, it's CDs and MP3s or various forms of digital music. I mean.. I dunno. I can't explain what I'm thinking.. ^_^;; I remember back in second grade, my teacher, Mrs. Anderson had a record player in her room and me and Nancy used to hang out in there during lunch sometimes.. And we'd mess with her records and stuff 'cause she just left us in there alone ((we're trustworthy, haha)) and she said we could. It was always so interesting ((to me, at least)) how when you put the needle down, it starts playing and stuff.. It's so weird.. I mean, how are you suppose to know when a certain song starts? I mean, I'm sure I knew back then 'cause I did, but yeah.. Hahaha. Yeah. I don't think I'm making sense, so I'll just stop now...
Tomorrow, we -- well, I -- will discuss.. umm.. I guess I'll talk about expectations. Look forward to it. XP
